JANALYN AUTUMN MIKLAS
A Budding
Musician
"This instrument is a
foundation for a musical career, and many boys and girls who are
now learning music on the harmonica will
step
into the great symphony orchestras and bands of our country some day." ―John Philip Sousa
Janalyn playing the HOHNER DISCOVERY
48
at the 50th annual SPAH
Convention
in St. Louis MO, August 15th, 2013.
Janalyn is fast
becoming a phenomenal chromatic harmonica player with competence to
interpret various musical styles. At her young age, she has
already gained invaluable stage experience as she travels domestic
and worldwide with her father, performing on stages in New Jersey,
Virginia, Idaho, Minnesota, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, and now
Trossingen Germany.
Her debut on the big stage was on August 22nd, 2010, when she performed to a packed house of discriminating harmonica enthusiasts, at the 47th annual SPAH International Harmonica Convention, held in Minneapolis, MN.
Even as a young girl, she has delighted many audiences in the Great Lakes States Region, as she has appeared in churches and other venues with her parents and brother-Miklas Music Ministry. She has appeared on Family Life TV in Kittanning PA on several occasions, which is broadcast worldwide via satellite uplink.
Janalyn chooses to play HOHNER
Harmonicas. She plays the DISCOVERY 48, the SUPER 64 and
SUPER 64x Professional Chromatics, the GOLDEN MELODY Diatonic, and
the 265 Orchestral Double Bass.
Janalyn receives harmonica lessons
from her father, George Miklas, who is a former member of Jerry
Murad's HARMONICATS. The Miklas family has a rich heritage of
musicians spanning several generations. Her grandfather,
Stephen Miklas (born March 26, 1920 in Youngstown, OH, USA), played
the harmonica and was known to perform before General George S.
Patton and General Dwight D. Eisenhower while serving in the U.S.
Army (WWII; 1942-1945). Her great-grandfather, George
Miklas (born April 17, 1872 in Krayne Zupa Nitransky,
Czechoslovakia), was known to play the pump organ. By 1847,
C.A. SEYDEL SÖHNE was manufacturing harmonicas in Klingenthal
Germany. Klingenthal is approxmiately 700 km from George
Miklas' hometown. It is possible then, that her
great-grandfather may have played the harmonica
too.
Janalyn also enjoys singing, and playing the flute, oboe, piano, and ukulele. She sings in her high school concert choir, plays the piccolo in the marching band, and oboe in the high school concert band. Janalyn plays the flute and oboe in her church orchestra, and also sings and plays the harmonica on the Youth Worship Team. She has taken formal lessons on the flute, oboe, and piano. At home, she recieves intensive musical training on the harmonica. At her young age, she confidently reads music and decodes intricate rhythmical passages with accuracy. Janalyn is becoming a competent, all-around musician, and she aspires to conquer great musical feats.
Beginning in August 2016, Janalyn will begin the next chapter of her life - college. She will begin her study Teaching English as a Second Language, combined with Global Studies, at Liberty University in Lynchburg Virginia.
